Camshaft
The Mitsubishi
industrial diesel engine, the camshaft opens up the poppet valves.
It is a cylindrical rod with cams, one for each valve,
with the length of the cylinder bank . The cam forces the valves to open up by pressing on the
valve, against the spring pressure as they rotate.
The valves let the air into the engine and the exhaust out of the engine.
The cams on the camshaft push against the pushrod and they push against the valves to open them as the camshaft rotates. The valve springs on the valves return the valve on the valve seats, their closing position. This is a precise job, because it has a great impact on the engine's performance.
